Apply the Dr Kez Chirolab® RESTORE Massage Oil to the area you'll be cupping or wipe oil on the bottom of each cup individually. Connect the cup (and extension tubing if you are using it) and pump and place the cup on the appropriate part of the body. Draw the handle to withdraw some air from the cup. Sometimes only a small squeeze is necessary. Remove from handle/extension tube, leaving the cup attached to the skin by the vacuum pressure created. After the desired elapsed time (usually 3-20 minutes, depending on the body area), simply release the pressure in the cup by pulling up on the cup's yellow valve to release the vacuum and using a finger at the base of the cup to help release the skin. Always use this method to release the cup gently (rather than pulling it away suddenly).

Is vacuum cupping safe?

Many massage businesses offer cupping as a part of their massage services. Always read the instructions in the manual.  As long as you don’t mind the ‘cupping kisses’ that go along with a cupping session and follow the instructions, vacuum cupping is generally safe. The cupping kisses fade over time and can vary in color depending on the body area. Side effects tend to be limited to the tightness experienced during the initial skin suction. Remember, you always have the option to apply only a small amount of pressure. Go with your tolerance. Just like a standard massage, some like it soft, some like it firm!

Does cupping leave marks on the skin?

Yes, temporary circular marks can sometimes appear on the skin after using suction cups as part of a massage or self-care routine. These marks are a common and harmless response to the suction created by the cups and may vary in colour depending on skin type and the level of suction used. They are usually temporary and typically fade over time. If you prefer a lighter effect, you can reduce the suction strength or shorten the time the cups are left on the skin.

Do you bleed or blister during cupping?

Blisters or bleeding are uncommon but may occur if excessive suction is applied or if the cups are left on the skin for too long. To minimise the risk, use gentle to moderate suction, avoid placing cups on broken or sensitive skin, limit the time the cups remain on the skin and stop use if discomfort occurs. Always use the cups carefully and adjust the suction to a level that feels comfortable for you.

How often can I do vacuum cupping at home?

Once a week, or as needed, whenever you feel like a massage!  The number of sessions varies per person, however, the frequency recommended would be about twice a week in the same area. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions are recommended for helping to live an active lifestyle.

How long should I leave the cups on for?

The cup is generally left in place for 3 - 20 minutes, depending on the body area. We would recommend no longer than 20 minutes.

What are the side effects of vacuum cupping?

Vacuum cupping is non-invasive, so there should be few to no side effects. However, you may feel slight discomfort and tightness during use as well as after. Cupping kisses are the most obvious sign to others that you have had a session.

Is there anything I should do after a cupping session?

Drink water! Just like when your massage finishes at your local shopping centre, and they offer you a cup of water, we recommend the same. It helps to keep your body hydrated after your session. You can have a shower to wash off any oil or use a wet face washer (warm is nice!) to clean the skin. 

Can you shower after cupping?

Yes, you can shower after using the cups. However, some people prefer to avoid very hot showers, saunas, or baths for a few hours afterwards, as the skin may feel more sensitive following suction. If your skin feels sensitive, consider using lukewarm water and avoiding strong heat for a short period. Cold shower anyone?
