Place the mat on a flat surface like the floor, couch or bed. To make yourself more comfortable you can place a yoga mat or rug underneath for more cushioning. If you still require a form of comfort or support, try using pillows or a cushion for your head or legs. Lie down with your back on the mat and the pillow supporting your neck. Then bend your knees, keeping your feet flat on the floor. This will increase contact between the mat and your lower back, but you can stretch your legs out if that's more comfortable.

It is recommended that you start with a minimum of 10 minutes and increase the time by 5 minutes with each use until you reach 30-40 minutes.  Of course, if you can handle more at the beginning, go for it! If you find that your skin becomes irritated after use, remember to take up the option of using a thin sheet over the mat or wear light clothing to protect your skin.
