The spine, comprised of 33 vertebrae (more in babies - but that’s another story), serves as the foundation for our entire body. It houses and protects the delicate spinal cord, which is responsible for transmitting signals from the brain to every part of our body, and for our body to get messages back to the brain for feedback. A healthy spine is required for proper alignment, optimal nerve function, and overall vitality.

Preventing Pain and Discomfort: A well-aligned spine reduces the risk of chronic neck and back pain, headaches, and tingling sensations in the arms and hands. 

Promoting Nerve Function: Any misalignment or subluxation in the spine can impede nerve function, leading to various health issues beyond mere discomfort.  When the nerve impulses can’t flow freely, the messages are affected.

Enhancing Mobility: A healthy spine allows for greater flexibility and mobility, ensuring that we can move freely without restriction or pain.

Postural alignment: An optimally aligned spine results in the correct biomechanics of the shoulder (and therefore upper limb) and the hip (and therefore lower limb).  Asymmetry of the muscles surrounding the spine and core, can result in poor biomechanics, a therefore a tendency for ailments and injuries in the upper and lower limbs.  Poorly balanced muscles also results in excess energy expenditure, as the body fights to maintain an upright posture, leading to constant feelings of fatigue.

Spinal subluxation refers to misalignments or partial dislocations of the vertebrae, disrupting the normal functioning of the nervous system. Resistance Bands:

When the muscles at the front and back of our spine become out of balance, this can lead to postural imbalances like hyperlordosis (excessive curve) in the lower back and hyperkyphosis (also an excessive curve, just in the opposite direction) in the middle back.  These imbalances can be rectified by increasing the strength of the weak muscle, by using the resistance bands, to provide an even pull on the spine, resulting in optimal posture.  Resistance bands are a great and convenient way to increase muscular strength at home, without the need for a full range of hand weights.
