FAQ AND FEATURES!

What does a Therapeutic Ultrasound do?

  • assists in reducing acute and chronic inflammation
  • helps soft tissue healing
  • aids in relieving painful soft tissue, bone and joint conditions
  • saves you money on extra consultation fees!

What can a Therapeutic Ultrasound treat?

The Therapeutic Ultrasound can be used on many injuries and ailments.  To name a few, as we can't possibly name them all 😁, the most common conditions we treat in clinical practice and can be treated at home are:

  • ligament sprains & muscle strains
  • bursitis & tendonitis
  • back & neck pain
  • torn muscles & sporting injuries
  • shoulder injuries
  • knee and calf pain
  • hamstring issues
  • arthritis
  • ankle sprains
  • sinus issues
  • tight jaw muscles
  • plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis & shin splints

Why can't I hear or feel the Ultrasound?

The Therapeutic Ultrasound is a high-frequency sound wave device that is beyond the realm of human hearing (and your furry friends too!) so you can't actually hear or feel the unit vibrating. If you hold it up to your ear you may hear a slight noise but it's nothing like a TENS machine that has an obvious intense buzzing and tingling feeling. Towards the end of the treatment, you may feel a slight warming of the treatment area due to the increased blood flow, depending on how damaged the area is, and this is normal. Generally, the device doesn’t create heat through the device itself. (Remember to unplug the device after use as the device can feel warm if it is left plugged in as it still pulls power.)

What are the different settings on the Therapeutic Ultrasound?

Our Therapeutic Ultrasound has three settings, but the Pulse setting is definitely the best for helping heal soft tissue or bone issues such as bursitis, tendonitis, muscle tears, injuries, inflammation, bone spurs and broken bones.  The pulse mode means that the sound waves are (silently) being turned on and off in a particular pattern to ensure the body has a chance to formulate a response during treatment.  It's unquestionably the best mode for assisting therapeutic action. The other two modes on the Therapeutic Ultrasound are continuous, either low or high, and can be used for assisting with skin repairs such as acne and wrinkles and fat-blasting.

How Long Does a Therapeutic Ultrasound Treatment Take?

It depends on the treatment area.  If it's a small area such as an ankle or wrist, it may only take a few minutes and for larger areas such as the lower back, it may take approximately 10 minutes. It's all explained in the manual.

How Often Can I Use a Therapeutic Ultrasound?

You can't overdo it really!  If you have the time to treat your ailment daily, go for it! Morning and night?  Perfect! If you only have time to do it a few times a week, that's great too. Every treatment helps get you closer to your healing goals.  As your ailment heals you may find you don't need to use it as much. It's the perfect device to have handy for whenever you feel you need it. Straight after an injury occurs or an ongoing issue.

Can I treat an injury with Therapeutic Ultrasound straight away?

Yes, absolutely! Due to the Ultrasound's ability to help with inflammation reduction, it can help prevent excessive damage swelling can do to the surrounding tissue when an injury first occurs. Treating an injury with Therapeutic Ultrasound as soon as possible may help with inflammation and pain management. Remember to seek medical advice if needed.

Do I need to use Conductive Gel with a Therapeutic Ultrasound?

YES!! This device MUST be used with ultrasound conductive gel (included) to ensure the sound waves are transmitted adequately through the skin to have an effect under the surface where it is needed most.  The high-frequency sound waves emitted by this device stimulate the blood to flow to the area and speed up the body’s own natural healing ability. Without the Conductive Gel, the sound waves are unable to get to where they need to be. 😕 A cream or healing 'gel' IS NOT a Conductive Gel and won't act accordingly. It needs to specifically be a Conductive Gel as stated on the packaging.

Where can I buy Conductive Gel?

Get your Conductive Gel HERE!  Once you have run out of the Conductive Gel provided in your Ultrasound, there are larger 250ml bottles available.

Are all Ultrasounds the same?

No! The Dr Kez Chirolab® Therapeutic Ultrasound has been designed with the best features possible.

  • The larger treatment head area, compared to most other devices, reduces the time required to treat any given injury area.
  • The Therapeutic Ultrasound has a 1-MHz which gets in deeper over a 3-MHz (more on the below!)
  • Auto-off after 15 minutes of use.  It’s a compact device that packs a lot of healing power, so it needs a rest after 15 minutes!
  • Absolutely fantastic!!!! It has the features of a device your practitioner may use but in a small, easy-to-use at-home device.
  • Can be used on multiple body areas.
  • Small and portable (requires access to power, it isn't a chargeable device)

What's the difference between a 1-MHz and a 3-MHz Therapeutic Ultrasound?
The Dr Kez Therapeutic Ultrasound is a 1-MHz powered device, which is better to treat tissues deep under the surface as its effect penetrates approximately 2.3 to 5 cm deep, great for muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae and joints.  3-MHz ultrasound devices may be also available online, but these only treat superficial tissues approximately 0.8 to 1.6 cm deep.

Ultrasound Therapy should NOT be:

  • Used for the treatment of malignancy (application over a suspected or confirmed tumour)
  • Used on the skin over electronic implants, including pacemakers or defibrillators
  • Used on an infected or bleeding area including tuberculosis
  • Used on the skin over vascular abnormalities (such as haemangioma, capillary, lymphatic, arterial or arterio-venous malformations)
  • Used directly on the abdomen or lower back of pregnant women
  • Applied directly over active epiphysis regions (growth plates) in the presence of myositis ossificans (bone formed within the muscle) or over the eyes, skull or reproductive organs
  • Used over open wounds or fragile or damaged skin e.g. eczema
  • Used on the front of the neck over the carotid sinus
  • Used over spinal abnormalities e.g. spina bifida, following laminectomy
  • Used over active deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis
  • Used on recently radiated tissue (high-dose radiation treatment within 6 months, not including an X-ray)
  • Used by individuals who do not comprehend the instructions for application

HOW TO USE

Therapeutic Ultrasound for Sports Injuries and How to Use It!

When used in conjunction with our Trauma Relief Cream, Kirofix® Injury Relief Lotion or Bone Aid Relief Cream, these sound waves have been shown to drive the benefits of these products even deeper into the body to further assist fast-track healing.

The STEPS FOR USE are explained in depth in the manual but in a nutshell it's pretty simple to use! If you have it, rub in some Kirofix® Injury Relief Lotion (Trauma Relief Cream is the same as Kirofix® but in a smaller tub) or Bone Aid Cream (if you have them but it's still great without it) onto the area to be treated. Then place some Conductive Gel on the device, THAT PART IS SUPER IMPORTANT - Gel is ALWAYS needed 😁. Turn on the device and choose the relevant setting for you, (pulse is the best for injury so it's just three presses of the button up to the pulse setting where the little light flashes to show its pulsing) then begin to move the device in a continuous circular or sweeping motion over the entire area until you have finished the treatment.  If you would like to see a video of it in use, there is one in the images section of this page. Usually we recommend that however many times the treatment head fits into the treatment area, times that by two minutes and this should give you an estimate of how long to treat.

You may need some tissues handy during the process and to clean the skin and device after you have finished.  It can be a little messy on joints!

Once you have finished, just wipe the device gently of any remaining Conductive Gel and clean the skin. If you are using Kirofix® Injury Relief Lotion and/or Bone Aid Cream, re-apply these and our Heativate® Heat Cream is also a great option for assisted continued blood flow if you need to continue to get through your day with a little warmth.
